I don't know what £400 is in US dollars, but the low end Laptops in all brands are just that, low end. They will work fine for most users, however you need to get the extended service contracts with them and that runs the price up. Now that I have said that, I still believe that Dell gives you the most bang for your buck overall. Get as much hard drive as you can for the music as someone else stated, or an external USB drive. Also, get at least 1 GB of RAM. You will find that the added performance will be well worth the money.

A Dell Laptop is a good choice if you are on a budget. You want to get as much Hard Drive space as you can since you download music. If you want, you could also purchase an external HD to store more music and other files. Dell Laptops are quality products and their Customer Service can help you with just about any problem that you have.

Maybe good price with no sale fee auctions. Dell or HP/Compaq have same quality.
