Yes you can. It happens when people pass out some times, which is why you are supposed to put them on thier side so that vomit and/or thier tongue does not fall back and block the air way. To 'swallow' but not really swallow, just the effect which results in choking. The muscles of the throat must be so relaxed that a muscle so small it's simply a little flipper wont trigger your gag reflex. Your tongue can then cut off your air supply by blocking the opening of your throat. It is possible to die from this if not caught.
