I just got a new Dwarf hamster. I was wondering if you should bathe them. They are very tiny and that is what I am worrying about. Does anyone know a veterniarian or a anybody who knows about Dwarf Hamsters. Please leave an answer. Even, if you do not have a clue about this, your sugestions are always acknowledged!
Thanx

Dwarf hampsters should never be put into water a bathed! I use to work for a pet store and you would be surprised at the number of people that would come in and say they where replaceing thier hampster because it died while they where tring to give it a bath! They can not handle the excitment they have little heartattacks! Get chinchilla powder, they will roll in this and bath themselves like a little dist bath!

Good Luck

I am a vet and I also own 2 dwarf hamsters (Daphidale and Jake)
No you shouldn't bathe them. There small and they have absorbant fur. When you bathe them everything will go into it's fur like a sponge. By the time you'll be able to tell that it's at all wet it will actually be soked. When it's walking around it will be so heavy it will feel like it's carrying another hamster. You shouldn't give it a bath NO WAY. A dwarf hamster will clean itself like a cat. SO it'll keep it's self clean and it will be clean and healthy as long as you clean the cage and dump the seed and pellets every week or so and make sure the water is clean.
hope I helped, any questions or anything you can e-mail me at sidesadle11@yahoo.com

P.S. Dwarf hamsters attract fleas and nats easiely, keep an eye at the bottum of the cage, if any pop up scrub it down. Dwarf hamsters will get them in there fur and lose all the cute fluff if they get nats or fleas in there cage. :)

Never stick your dwarf hamster in water to bathe it! It can become too cold when you take it out. Go to the pet store and ask them. They should have some powder to clean the hamster with.

Most rodents are self cleaning. Keep his cage clean and plenty of bedding and he shouldn't need a bath. However if you feel he needs a bath, use warm water, keep the water away from his eyes, nose and ears. Use a very mild animal soap or baby shampoo and rinse it off completely. Dry him with a towel and hair dryer if he will sit still for the hair dryer, if not put him near a heat source or in a sun spot on the floor to make sure he dries completely. Rodents can get colds or worse from not being dried or getting water in their lungs. So proceed with caution

I used to have a dwarf hamster. She kept herself clean. You don't actually have to clean her. If the fur looks really dirty, than your hamster might be sick.
