I know what you mean, not marriage and divorce related though, but in life.
I lived in South Africa my entire life, and recently immigrated to
Canada.

Now, Canada is a much better country for many reasons. The crime rate is much lower, is is beautiful (even if it is cold most of the year), and I have found the person I love here, schooling and work is better, the economy is much better, etc.

But I still miss South Africa. Not neccessarily frineds or family, since I wasn't that close to them in the first place, but I would love to go back for a while.
I've only been in Canada for five months, but I would dearly like to see some familiar things.

My entire family, and I, thought life was going to to be much better here, and it has improved greatly, but we still view South Africa as the best place on earth.

The grass most certainly is not greener on the other side, (of course, taking into consideration that the grass is covered with several inches of snow in Canada most of the time).

I agree with you. The grass seems greener on the other side because you don't know the details. If someone would look deeper, then they would realize that it's not better, just different. I believe you have to take care of your own grass instead of looking at others and stop comparing yourself.

I don't think it is greener on the other side. But I think many people like different grass not greener. They want something new and exciting instead of the same old yard they've been mowing for years.

The grass is not greener on the other side, everybody has there own baggage. Just because it looks better at the time it will most likely the same as yours.

I think the majority of people that aren't happy in their own relationships didn't spend enough time figuring out what they wanted in a relationship and inadvertantly settled for a less than spectacular mate. Now a few years down the road they have figured out what they want and it isn't what they have...now the eyes are wondering and of course the grass looks greener and sometimes even is.

The expression is "The grass isn't greener on the other side of the fence" which actually backs up what you said after.

No, not frequently. It merely looks that way till you get there and you already know the grass you have been on earlier replaced into lots greener. It merely mandatory greater of your care and interest.

reminds me of a lyric from one of my favorite songs....
"the grass looks much greener, but it's green painted cement"
you're further away, you can't even tell whether it's grass or not. you can't see the details like you can in your own lawn, so it SEEMS better.
