There are many great bamboo plants that might be possible as a solution. The best idea would be to visit your local nursery and see what types they carry as these are more likely to grow well in your area.

Also, make sure you choose a non-invasive variety so that it doesn't end up taking over your whole garden.

Hello Brian, bamboo is lovely as hedging and it will sound lovely on a summer's day with a light breeze playing through it, it whistles, hums and moans!
Sasa veitchii - grows to a height of 1.5m, leaves are about 10ins long and edged in white. It's hardy and loves full sun.
Shibataea kumasasa - grows to between 1-1.5m. Leaves are broad for a bamboo, and about3ins long. Hardy - full sun.
Yushania anceps - This one grows to a height of 2-3m. Has arching stems. Fully hardy and full sun.
Thats all i can think of, but i'm sure there's more. Have you gave a thought to grasses? A boundary of Golden Oats would look lovely or zebra grass? Anyway, good luck, x

I dont know what its called, but it has a brown stem unlike the green stem of some bamboos. i have it and it grows to 3 metres if not more and it spreads too. will give you a nice bushy hedge which i like and i think is better than using conifers.

I agree with the others - Bamboo is extremely invasive and you should avoid planting it. It doesn't even form a good hedge. Consider alternative hedging plants.

If you plant bamboo, get out the KY Jelly because you are gonna be screwed once it starts taking over the yard.
You MUST dig a trench at least 24 inches deep so the roots won't escape.
Use hollies or fringe flower.

I would not use bamboo as it is very very hard to control and get rid of if you do not like it. Use a evergreen hedge instead
