It generally does not hurt at all. When it does, it is only a minor pain that goes away. What are the pros and cons of surgery to push the old intestines back where they belong (and keep them there)?

The pros are to have the surgery electively, before the guts get trapped. If your intestines become stuck in the hernia, we call that an incarcerated hernia. If the blood supply to said intestines becomes compromised, you then have a strangulated hernia, which is a surgical emergency.

It is always better to do the procedure electively. Lower risk.

The cons are, well, surgery is surgery. It hurts and you have to recover and you might live a long and happy life without ever having problems with the hernia. You just don't know.

Personally, I'd have it fixed while it's easy to fix, before it gets larger, and before complications occur.

Lxl, good question. Supposedly wearing contacts as opposed to glasses slows the progression of nearsightedness. As others say, you can get lasik when your about 20 years. If your young and nearsighted you might try a slight degree of reading glasses. It might help slow things down a bit. Those carrots, even though it sounds crazy, might have something to it. There are some islands and remote cultures where the kids don't need glasses. When these same kids are relocated to big civilized cultures they get myopia. Is it the diet, or what. Nobody seems to know. They've made lots of progress in lasik etc., but really the medical people don't really have an answer for nearsightedness. Is it diet, I don't know. With all the advances in medicine etc. the medical crowd doesn't have an answer. They'll tell you that people were nearsighted and just had to live with it in the olden days. I'm sure there was some. When the medical people say it is about the same as it's always been, don't believe it. That's bull.

My granddaughter had a slight hernia in her abdomen when she was born. When she was about 4 years old, her doctor suggested she get it out as it was growing bigger, about the size of a walnut. She had the surgery and has a very light, small scar that you wouldn't even notice. She is absolutely fine now.

There are only pros to having it repaired. If it isn't repaired it can strangulate and you would need emergency surgery. What it it ruptures or other problems develop? Get it taken care of before you wind up needing it done on an emergency basis.

I think you should have the surgery to have it repaired. It will only keep getting bigger and the pain may become worse. It would be better to go ahead and get it repaired now before it causes more problems. Talk to your doctor about it.

Get it taken care of. You'd probably be saving yourself from a very painful trip to the emergency room and emergency surgery( which is by the way,WAY more expensive )Just take care of it. You owe it to yourself and you could do more damage by avoiding it.

I would seek a Gastrologist opinion- from a slight discomforting bulge to gang green setting in is just the distance from being knowledgeable to just plain being dumb.

Why would you wait, aren't you #1? without health, we are nothing . Please go take care of yourself, if you dont take care of you no one will. I know several men who have had this fixed and they recovered quickly , just fine. Good luck and good health!!!
