If you have cable or DSL it could be a problem with the connection from your computer back to the modem or with the modem itself.

Do you have wireless or are you using an Ethernet cable? If you are usign an Ethernet cable look at the location where it connects to your laptop and make sure there is a flashing light.

Next click on Start
Click on Run
type cmd
Press Enter

type ipconfig /all in the black window

Look for IP Address. You should have numbers that do not but not 169.0.0.0. This may be listed under a wireless adapter or a wired adapter.

If you get a message saying media disconnected it could be something external to your computer.

Have you tried configuring your internet options when opening Internet Explorer? I'd strongly suggest that you change the security settings there from high to medium. Also try opening your firewall from the control panel and click the Exceptions Tab. Add Program, then select Internet Explorer for block exceptions.

Press Start then All programs then Accessories then in the Sub menu Click System Tools and Click on to System Restore. There should be a Restore point in place and if so Press Next and Click on the links and your computer will be Restored to an earlier time. You can also Create a System Restore point by clicking on to Create System Restore point and all you have to do is for example Type in the following, 30 DECEMBER 2006 AND cLICK ON THE LINKS AND YOUR COMPUTER WILL BE rESTORED TO THIS POINT.

1. What version of Internet Explorer are you running?

2. Also what error message(s) are you getting up each time you try to use it. you have not specified what error messages you are getting?

Once they are known, we might be able to diagnose the problem a little better.

go to start
help and support
system restore
go back to a time where your system worked properly

worst extreme and its a virus you have and your virus checker hasn't picked it up or unable to remove.

try your disc's you got with your computer and reformat your c/drive and reinstall windows and drivers. this will delete everything you have, music and pics etc. you will have to reinstall any programmes you have added. but your computer will be back to how it was when it came out off the factory. make sure you have your windows product code its about 25 digits long. if not you can get blag ones. but get them 1st
hope this helps

If you have Windows XP on your Laptop do the following.

1.) start
2.) control panal
3.)performance and maintenance
4.) click on System
5.) click on the system restore tab
6.) check mark the box that says turn off system restore
7.) click apply

and it should bring you back to the normal system as it came from the factory. If that does not help, and you hopefully have purchased warranty with it, bring it back to the computer shop and exchange it. Good luck!
