Welsh independence today is a no-brainer - the people don't want it because they are canny and know which side their bread is buttered, ie by the long-suffering English taxpayer - all same likee Scotland. Neither country could conceivably support an independent economy, and the people of Wales know this very well.

There is no doubt that an independent Wales would be as prosperous as any other small country within Europe, instead of a poor backwater of the UK. For example, Ireland another country that was once part of the UK, which although lacking the mineral wealth of Wales and further away from the centre of Europe has a higher standard of living than Wales. However, hundreds of years of rule and propaganda from London has lead the Welsh to be subservient and spineless. When it comes to Wales economic and political norms are turned on their heads so that it is seen as a good thing that we let our economic, monetary and social policy be decided outside Wales; a brain drain (in particular Welsh people having to move out of Wales and make a living in London) is seen as a positive and something to be proud of and that our head of state is the queen of another country.

Yes Wales indeed has had it's heroes and like all countries you should always be proud of where you come from.
If Wales were in dependant it would survive but it is a small country so it obviously is more difficult in a modern world where everything is now so competitive. Especially in manufacturing where it is virtually impossible to compete with the like of China and India where wages are so cheap. Unfortunately over the years British companies always seem to be unable to complete in most things hence the nose dive in manufacturing that has occured in Britain over the last 30-50 years. Poor management poor workforce (as the unions were partially to blame as well) with low productivity. British industry (not all obviously) have been notoriously bad at long term investment. If an idea won't make a profit by the end of next week they are unwilling to invest where as abroad there is more long term investment.

I believe that it was independent at one time but the last truly independent 'Prince of Wales' gave submitted himself to an English King, Alfred the Great, I believe. When the Normans arrived they used this precedent to enforce their own authority over Wales.

It didn't work for Scotland - England was too strong; Wales is a smaller country than Scotland yet in much closer proximity to English power so its resonable that they would not succeed.

im sorry but most of the welsh iv ever met, i wouldnt trust with a potato gun. the welsh had one brief victory over the medieval english army, and won some minor skirmishes. mainly by them ambushing the english forces, and not standing and fighting man to man.
and as for ure welsh hero owain glyn dwr, he was educated in england, and actually in his life spent more of it in england, than he did in wales. he was granted the welsh town he ran, as a favour he did for the ENGLISH!!!
is it sinking in yet? the welsh would make nothing on their own. theyve got big foreheads, they can sing (cant we all, when weve nothing to do?), and they like rugby.
A GAME INVENTED BY THE ENGLISH.
welsh independence????? dont make me laugh...............

the welsh are arrogant and speak in their own language and hate english people, where people from scotland welcome the english and do their best to accomodate them, the welsh are outsiders because the english kicked them out of england, but the scotts were originally from Ireland and thats why they both wear kilts and have very similar music. the welsh are hated by everyone and its their own fault because they alienate everyone they meet
