I hear about Kwanzaa on TV or in what I read, but I don't know anyone who actually celebrates Kwanzaa or who doesn't think it is a joke.

Also if you really do celebrate it, here is a question. What is the difference between celebrating your race during the week of Kwanzaa or celebrating your race during (the month of February) African American Month?

I just hosted my annual Kwanzaa party at which we took time to remember the people who came before us (ancestors) as well as those who have joined our 'ancestors' more recently. We enjoyed foods and music from our blended cultural heritage (reggae, jazz, AfroBeat, etc.) and most important, we had fun.

My friends who have not celebrated Kwanzaa in the past, love coming to this event because it is uplifting and exciting to share. Even the kids asked when was the next one.

As far as the difference between Kwanzaa and Black History Month, Kwanzaa extols specific positive principles which have helped us to get to where we are today and which we intend to apply in our lives going forward. It is not principally a celebration of race but rather a recognition of shared values.

Hi! I have celebrated Kwanzaa my whole life and it isn't a joke.

The answer to your question:

In kwanzaa we celebrate our people as africans, like we trace back to the motherland.
In african american month, it's "american" so yea.

Kwanzzaa isn't about celebrating race, its just like a holiday for those of a particular creed and religion. Just like Christmas and Hanukkah.

And yes, I know people who celebrate all three holidays mensioned ;)
