The first thing to you must learn is how to balance while rolling. Just Simply stand on the board in a slight incline and just roll down the hill.
Next you might want to learn how to push. stand on the board and use which ever foot is comfortable to have pushing and just push a couple of times and hop on do it till you get the hang of it.
Now we are at the trick stage the first trick you should learn is the ollie, this is the root trick for practiculy all the tricks you will ever learn on a skateboard. Try switch magazine or Traansworld skateboarding magazines for trick tips on it or find a friend to teach you.
Finally the most imprtant thing I can share with you is - Whatever trick your trying to learn have fun if your not feeling that trick just chill on it and try it later. Skateboarding is meant to be fun .

Whether you are about to get on a skateboard for the first time or are a pro, falling is an inevitable part of the sport. And, its where injuries can occur. Trying to prevent injury is not only good safety but can save you from having to sit out from skateboarding for a season because your leg is in a cast.
One smart trick to learn is how to fall without injuring yourself. Always try to land on a fleshy part of your body, and try to roll with it. Try not to use your hands, wrists or arms to break your fall. It will take practice because its natural to put your hands out, but breaking that reflex could save you a lot of pain in the long run.
