Im 33 weeks. I only gained 16 pounds so far and I do eat alot. (I have always been petite - not by choice but just dont gain weight --it runs in the family)
im 116 and was 100 when i got pregnant. doctor says its ok and everything is fine but im wondering if my baby will be a normal weight. I honestly cant even see the 16 pounds on my body. My stomach looks pregnant but is on the smaller side.

I was 5 lb 9 oz at birth. Will my baby most likely be the same?

you're fine, you'll probably gain the most weight during the last couple weeks when it's all baby growing.

I was worried about the same thing. I've always been overweight, but the instant I got pregnant I found I could eat just about anything in the world and not gain a pound. I'm at 31 weeks now, and am about 1 pound heavier than I was when I got pregnant. By the time I got to the doc around 7 weeks I had lost about 10 pounds, so I've really gained 11 by their charts. Morning sickness took the weight off at first, but I figured I'd be gaining like crazy by now.

I also got worried and went to the doctor. I look pregnant, but you can tell I've lost weight everywhere else. My doctor told me that your metabolism can speed up while you're pregnant. They measure the uterus every time we go in, and I'm showing growth, so they're not worried. I also asked about the weight of the baby, and they say it's usually somewhere in the neighborhood of what the parents weighed at birth. The only way that changes is if you have gestational diabetes and don't get treatment for it (which in our case is unlikely because we are getting good prenatal care).

So sit back, relax, eat like a crazy woman, and try not to worry. Since you were small your baby will most likely be small, too, but there's no reason to panic until the doctor tells you to panic. Just eat healthy and make sure the baby gets what it needs.

With my first I gained 11 lbs. total my entire pregnancy. I ate when I was hungry and I didnt' when I wasn't. I got classified as high risk and put on a special diet but still only gained 11 lbs. I'm not petite, I'm 5'10 and weigh around 190 but I'm not fat by any means either, I'm an athlete (with this many kids I have to be!) and I love sports. I ended up having a 7lb 13oz baby girl who was perfectly healthy! My next pregnancies I gained 17lbs and delivered a 6lb 4oz daughter, and with my third I gained 9 lbs and she was 8lbs 1oz. Weight gain doesn't factor in as to how large your baby will be. Do what's right for you, eat when you're hungry and don't when you're not. Good luck to you! Keep in mind you still have over a month to go and that's when most women gain weight the quickest :)

Chances are if you always were small, you will remain small all the way through pregnancy, and have a small baby.

However, I'd be patient, if I were you. Most women do not gain the bulk of their weight until the last month or two of pregnancy, and they gain at a rate of 1 pound a week. Assuming the same is true for you - you should be well within the normal range of 25-35 pounds for a normal pregnant woman.

I guess if your doctor isn't worried then you don't need to be. If you feel good and eat a balanced diet and make sure you're taking a prenatal vitamin, you should be fine. I've known some fairly small women who've had fairly large babies. I would be more concerned with having a pelvis too small to allow a baby to safely pass than your weight. Again, if your doctor hasn't brought up any concerns I would just thank your lucky stars you're not gaining tons of weight now so you won't have tons to lose. Good luck and try to quit worrying, just enjoy the time! Congrats on your baby!

Since you were small at birth, most likely your baby will be. I wouldn't worry about how little weight you have gained. I didn't gain any with my first baby and she weighed exactly 7 pounds. She was perfectly healthy and still is. If I were you, I would expect to deliver a 5 to 6 pound baby, since that's what you were. Listen to your doctor and go by his recommendations and I think you'll be fine.

i was small before pregnancy too, i was 117 lbs but im 5'10"...after my pregnancy i was about 140 lbs. i was only 35 weeks when i had my baby girl so she didnt get the fat that most babies get in the last month of pregnancy. she was 5 lbs. 1 oz at birth and is putting on weight very well now. i am back to about 125 lbs. ive never put on weight either. it just looked like i had a basketball in my stomach, other than that, you couldnt tell i was pregnant consider yourself lucky! your baby should be a perfectly healthy weight despite what you may see in yourself. congrats and good luck with your birth!!! :)

If your Doctor isn't worried then you shouldn't be either. I have 9 children, I gained 63 lbs. with my first (yikes!) she weighed 6 lbs 15 oz. With my twins I lost 14 lbs. and they weighed 5lbs. 11oz each 21 and 22 inches long , and with my last one I gained 21 lbs and she was 8lbs 4 oz. and 6 of those pounds were put on in the last 4 weeks. Be thankful that you will be one of the lucky moms who can were her "favorite" jeans home from the hospital.
