Yes, you can. You will have to prove that one is a personal laptop and other official. Earlier I have been able to carry them for about twice. They mark an entry at transit point.

Now, the laws are a bit strict. You can still try.

As you are allowed 1 hand baggage and 1 laptop, try to put one laptop as part of your hand baggage.

The other easier way would be to request a fellow passenger.

One laptop per person is allowed from US to Chennai. Better u check-in with the baggage inbetween the clothes, so that it could reach u safe. I think u need to pay some tax for carrying the lap-top from US to India. So better u check-in with the baggage.

But, why not check one in baggage?

You are only allowed one. Why would you need 2? Use a storage disk for other info that you might need from the other.
