This is the easiest way.
In the bottom right hand corner of your screen you should see a picture of two computers. It might have a cross in it or not.
Double click on that and find your Internet connection. You will then see the speed.

In the bottom right hand corner of my screen I have an icon that looks like two tellys - if I hover my cursor over them it tells me my broadband speed is 1.1 Mbps. (i.e. 1.1 Megabytes per second... pretty darn fast eh?)
