i have a 9600 ati. it is a low end card it can barely play battlefield 2142. i would get something newer.

A "low-profile" card is one that is required for a PC chassis where the full-height card would not fit properly or would not let you close the case.

For example, the Dell Optiplex series PCs were offered in what was referred to as a "space-saver" or minimized case. If you wanted to insert a graphics card in that case and use it instead of the on-board VGA adapter, you had to buy a low-profile card or it would not allow the case to close properly.

I do not believe that the ATI RADEON 9600SE is in the low-profile category. There is an ATI RADEON 9250 that is half-height though if you are looking for something from ATI.
