My memory stick, without any warning, suddenly crashed when I last inserted it in a USB slot. Now I don't know what to do or if I can still retrieve data I stored in it. I have really important stuff in there. I'm still holding to the thought that there is hope but I need realistic facts.

After it crashed, whenever I insert it the PC does the usual recognize usb device then Autoplay notice but it doesn't show the stored items then after 5 mins, it sends a "hardware not formatted. Format it now?" notice

no dont, you will loose everything. I am sure you just pull it out everytime you are done with it right. you have to go to safely remove hardware before you pull it out. but thats not the point right now. there is alot of cool software that you can try to recover your data.
the one I recommend the most is R-Studio. it is pretty cool. also try to run partition magic and see if it detects your flash drive. if it does, it means that you lost the partition on your drive and your computer cant detect it with out it. R-Studio is your best shot.
email if more help needed.

you are going to be waiting to salvage the stick, yet you will ought to understand (or understand (somebody) who can solder wires from the circuitboard 0.5 of the shop on with the plug end of the stick. i've got performed only that to 2 pal's sticks...... One dropped his workstation with the stick put in, the different grew to become into the proverbial "My dogs ate it"..........
