Hi Paul, You are absolutely justified to protect yourself anyway you choose . If you get hurt, your wonderful shop manager is not going to be anywhere to be found to lessen your burden . Management ,or whoever is above him , should have the interest of all the guys at heart and see to it that the man gets some educated P R lessons . He is obviously under -educated and somebody is going to get hurt with his attitude . Actually from where I sit I can tell you the entire group is lacking .
Keep your eyes open and run like heck .(Just kidding);
Good Luck.

Who's going to be laughing if some nutter comes in and starts trouble, people always under estimate what danger security guards have to put up with if something kicks off.
wear it without feeling stupid, you never know in a few years time you may post a question asking should you upgrade to a bullet version

If your manager has a problem call the health and safety authority and ask them to revue conditions in your workplace. There is a proven risk, so your employer has a duty to minimise or eliminate this risk. The consequences of not doing anything are possibly a crimianl conviction and serious legal sanctions.

that's a very sensible course of action, as ur working with/around the general public and the law regarding shop-lifters, means they will more likely get a caution than go 2 prison now.
not getting caught at all would b their number 1 priority. i know of at least 1 shop worker who's been stabbed apprehending a thief!
i think ur being cautious and ur manager obviously has no idea of the low-lifes u come across.
better 2 b safe than sorry.
tell him ur wearing it under ur clothes and it's no business of his.

Remember your number one!! And there is only one of you! If you have already been stabbed at work, I don't blame you! Have a laugh with everyone at work about it and they will soon forget about it and probably respect you more for having a joke about it! Your boss is a wolly and maybe take it up with him again and browse the internet and see what your rights are!! If it was me i would wear it!
Good luck

You're right wearing a stab vest.I had a similar encounter where I should have worn one and it nearly cost me my life.If your mates continue to laugh the joke could be on them one day.Just hope they can see the serious side of things and maybe wear one themselves 'cos this day and age you don't know what's around the corner especially being in the security business.

Hey if it makes you feel comfortable then wear it.
Its under your shirt so no one can see it.
Maybe if they had been stabbed before they might not find it so amusing.
Good Luck.
