I would like to make a blanket that is half satin and half fleece. I am wondering if this material will work together and if there is any advice or something you would do differently please let me know.

The reason I want to do half and half is because I want an attractive silk bead spread but not slippery or cold. The fleece will be nice and cozy and I have made a quilt before but never with these fabrics.

Were you planning on putting the satin on the fleece like an applique??
1. If you are you will need a laundrable stiffener for the satin as the fleece has a certain amount of give.
2. If you were wanting to have the fleece on one side and the satin on the other cut the satin larger than the fleece to allow for a certain amount of give. You can either tie the two together or sew buttons having the fabric like a sandwhich in between.
3. When you go to get the fabric, if you haven't already ask for the shop assistants advice.
4. If you are still unsure find your closest Patchwork and Quilting Store and they will be only too willing to help you and may even give you some other ideas

It will work but not very well. The fleece and satin will shrink in different directions some times after they are washed and dry ed.

If you do make this blanket be sure to put a dry sheet in with it when you put it in the dryer or the amount of static electricity will be something.

I would suggest that you use flannel or a heavy cotton with the satin. Enjoy!

Sounds like it will be lovely, Go ahead & make your blanket, the fabrics will work together well. However, it would be to your advantage to wash both fabrics, before you begin sewing. The washing has a two-fold benefit;
(a) Washing remove's the sizing added by the manufacture + cleans the fabric's.
(b) If shrinkage should occur, it will happen during the washing, and drying steps.
So Go Have Some Fun.

Hmm...those aren't fabrics that are usually used together. Fleece is a good, fairly easy fabric to work with, but satin is rather slippery. It could work, but I'd be careful...the best thing you could do is call a sew shop.

Treat it like a quilt. Many stiches in a pattern. Otherwise the material will "clump" up.

See the link below for tips.

If the materials will shrink----wash them first, so you'll know exactly how they will fit together when done.....Sounds like a winner---satinee and cozy warm.....
