Has anyone ever given bith to twins and neither you nor the father had twins in your families'? I've been on the Seasonale pill for 2 years. As you may or may not know.......with this birth control pill you only have a period every 12 weeks (3 mths.)...I've recently found out at the ER that I'm early pregnant while actively taking the pill. My HCG levels in my blood changed significantly in less thatn 48-hours as a twin pregnancy would. I'm scheduled for an ultrasound Monday to find out for sure. My husband is upset at the possibility since neither of us has twins in our families. My Dr. stated that I could've had eggs backed up from the type of pill I was on. Anyone ever conceived twins in the manner with out them in either family?

The ultrasound will also have to be used to determine a due date because I wasn't due to have my period until Jan. 14th......My last period was Oct. 13th. This is really blowing my mind.....Because I just had a breast reduction Dec. 7th. The doctors say that I must've been too early for it to show up on the urine test that was taken before I was pu to sleep or I conceived soon after my surgery.

ur doc would be correct. thats why parents that do invitro fertilization have more cases of multiple births. more eggs put in woman = more chances of kids they will have (they do this with invitro bc they want to get their moneys worth...if they implant one egg and it doesnt take then theyve lost thousands of $$)

Of course you can conceive twins without a family history. The only type of twins that are considered to be "hereditary" are fraternal twins, and it has to do with the woman's ovaries releasing more than one egg at a time. And this trait would only be a factor in the woman's family as far as your pregnancy goes. If your husband has fraternal twins in his family it would not matter in this pregnancy, but could in the future to your daughter. Identical twins are completely random, one egg splits into two. This can happen to any woman. Maybe your elevated HCG levels have something to do with the birth control. Just wait and fight out for sure at your ultrasound. Don't get stressed out about it, what can you do anyway?

There were no twins on either of my parents side, but yet my brother and sister are both twins. When I was pregnant with my son I didn't find out till I was about four and a half months along that I was even pregnant, I was on the birth control pill Orthotryclen and I had my period every month that I was pregnant up untill I was seven months pregnant, two weeks later I gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby boy

Of course! Someone hast to be the first!

As for his family, it doesn't matter if they have twins or not. It's your side that counts and tells your body to split the egg again or not, or to release more then 1 egg.

Where you on any type of antibiotics during your reduction? Antibiotics will null the effects of the pill so you can get pregnant easier while still taking the pilll.

Congratulations and good luck!

When my cousin got pregnant for the first time she found out at about 16 weeks that she was pregnant with twins. She had never been on fertility drugs of any kind, twins don't run in our family nor her husband. She gave birth to beautiful identical twin girls.

3 years later she got pregnant again..........9 months later she gave birth to identical twin boys!!!! We thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Needless to say, she chose not to ever get pregnant again!! LOL

Why would he be upset? Is he afraid you were cheating on him with a guy who has twins in his family? He needs to quit being so jealous if that's the case. Anyway twins are common in some families, but that doesn't mean they only happen in families with a history of twins. Anyone can potentially have twins.

It might very well be fraternal twins where 2 eggs were released and I dont think that runs in families.
