i went to the dr today, i'm one week overdue. i'm 1 cm dilated and i was just wondering if anyone knows if theres an avg amount of time it takes before labor starts once you've began dilating. i know every women is different, so it varies, but is there an average time? or how long has it taken in your experience? he said if i dont go into labor by monday, to come back in and we'll talk about inducing then. i've had contractions, some strong, but mostly mild-moderate, and they arent regular really yet. my cervix is softened and effacing also.

I assume this is your first. With my first and second When I started dialating and having some mild contractions....ones that were more than 3 or 4 an hour...then about 2 days later I was in full labor. Did he strip your membranes yet? That also helps....that is actually what started me dialating and the contx...after that its usually withen 48hrs. Good Luck and I hope you have a happy healthy beautiful baby!

There's not really an average amount of time.
Some people will be 1cm, or even 3 cm for a few weeks; others don't dilate at all until they begin early labor.
If it's a recent change, that is if your cervix was closed a week ago, and NOW is 1 cm -- that could mean that you are slowly moving towards labor. If you're are lucky! Especially since you are having some contractions.
Just for fun, I'm going to make a prediction. Saturday, I predict Saturday. I'd love to know if I am right.
Good luck!

Well i was 1 cm. for about 3 weeks. I am now 38 weeks preggo. You can be 1 cm dialated and go into labor that day or it could be a month. Every woman is different. But Good luck.

It really depends on the person. I never dilated at all and had to be induced. A friend of mine was at 1cm for weeks. My sister went from 1cm to being in labor 3 days later. Time is the only thing that will tell.

Well, unfortunatelly there's no way of knowing when the child will really come into this world. My experience took around 12 hours before I held my beautiful baby in my arms. Good luck!

How many weeks are you? You are not late if you are between 38-42 weeks. Due dates are just an estimate and unless there is a medical reason, I would not induce.
