How can Real Madrid extend his contract by 2 years and pay him more then his exisiting deal when he doesn't get picked for the team anymore. I don't get it!

It shows that performance on the field isn't the only criterion..... Sad really.

I believe the reason they want to keep him is for the money they gain from his other sponsorship deals. Plus thy want him so no one else can have him, and to keep there squad size up, just in case.
