First he opposed the formation of the Department of Homeland Security before he approved it; he championed, then abandoned social security reform; he backed, then backed-off of, the Dubai Ports Deal; supported, then booted, Donald Rumsfeld as Iraq's military architect. Other notable 180s include his stances on steel tariffs, justification for invading Iraq (several times), and lately, acknowledging that the U.S. was NOT winning the war in Iraq.

Any other loop-de-loops that make Kerry look resilient by comparison? Will he do another one with Iraq that isn't so much to "stay the course"?

Proud~American: You seem to be ducking the question at hand. Is it a difficult topic to address? I admit, watching Dubya wiggle and waiver and waffle can hurt the eyes, but I'd love to know if I've missed something in the list of flip-flops.

Completely against a 9/11 Commission, then for one, although limited in scope and power, so I guess he was still against an effective and independent one.

Used to claim not to care about gay marriage, because that was "up to the states", then was for a Constitutional Amendment.

Wanted Osama, "Dead or Alive," then didn't "spend much time thinking about him", then when election time came around, he again became a focus.

Generally, contrary to claims about not paying attention to the polls, he'll say whatever is politically expedient, knowing that the American attention span will never look for actual actions or follow-through.

And I say that as an American.

He also said that Saddam Hussein conspired with bin Laden to orchestrate the 9-11 attacks. Two years after invading Iraq, he said there was no connection between Saddam and 9-11. He claimed that no one could have predicted that the levees would breach during Katrina, then later admitted that they would. He emphatically claimed that wire tapping was illegal without a court order, then defied the law and wire tapped whoever he pleased.

It's at least refreshing he steps up and realizes when something isn't working and is willing to redirect (even if it takes him a while).

He already has flip flopped on the war.

Whole lot of waffling going on.

But I think "waffling" and "flip-flopping" are only used when it's a Democrat doing it. When a Republican does, it's just "changing course".
