Whether you are shaving, waxing or using a cream the best way to keep your skin clear and rash free is to make sure you exfoliate(daily if possible) to prevent ingrown hairs using a massage sponge or soft loofah. You can also use a dry body brush.
After exfoliating you can use a gentle gel or cream that is mildly antiseptic to get smooth, soft skin. Chemists sell special lotions and creams that also claim to also retard hair growth but personally I don't think you can go wrong with something natural like a lotion or gel with tea tree or witch hazel.
Hope this helps!

Only ever wax your bikini line. You can also get a cream from boots that prevents ingrown hairs after waxing/shaving.
