The old cliches about imagining everyone in the audience being naked are silly and senseless. You don't want to look around and laugh at them! One thing I'd do is ignore all the stares, and imagine you see your boyfriend out there, about the center of the crowd. Sing your song to him. You could also imagine he's moving around out there, and follow him with your eyes as you sing. Nothing endears you more to the crowds than looking AT them, rather than looking off into space. Eventually, you'll get over this stage fright, and be able to actually look at individual faces in the audience, and your connection with them has been established! But don't try to ignore them. They sense that and it just doesn't work. It's a matter of teaching yourself to be comfortable with an audience. They are the reason you are up there on the stage, and without them you'd have no show.

this used to happen to me all the time. honestly, all you have to do is practice. while your with friends, if a song comes on that you like, sing along with it. pretend you're by yourself. and as you get more comfortable and confident, you will be able to sing in front of crowds. you should start off with a chorus or something. then maybe get a solo in the chorus. then if you feel you're ready, you can start performing by yourself. you should meet people who already sing in front of crowds and they can help you with the stage level you are at.

Just remember, some of your favorite bands, and singers Im sure, have at one time in their life or career, have felt the same way, and theres nothing to worry about. If you ever find yourself on stage again, just go with the flow and find a focal point looking outward to a crowd, you know what i mean? You dont have to look at them, but just focus on a spot and have fun, that way you wont be so timid or nervous and it will be alright. Just my opinion....

You know you can sing well...if you're getting on stage in the first place, you're probably a good singer, and you KNOW you can do it.
Of course the other people staring at you makes it harder.
But just imagine your favorite singer...then imagine yourself as them...
throw all other thoughts aside and SING!

Just realize that you have a gift and people will love you.
Also some of the best singers are shy in person.

People judge you on confidence when your up in front of them. If you don't show confidence people (like me when I see an unconfident person on stage) will understand. They won't be all like, "I'll never let you live that down!!!"
I take deep breaths and try not to think of it TOO much.
