I have been (unfortunately) been with many dying people, quite a few of them very close to me. It depends on what they are dying of, their doctor, their own living will choices, and most of all their faith. If they feel they're going to a "better place" many people don't feel the pain as much (or so they've told me). Also, many diseases, etc. do not hurt and of course people who die instantaneously have no pain at all.

1. When you die, all your body's functions shut down and it decomposes.
2. It depends on how you're dying.
If you go in your sleep, for example, it probably doesn't hurt.
If you get shot or something, yeah, I expect that would hurt a bit.
