I'm 13 weeks pregnant and I want to work out with my friend, doc's said due to my diabetes and being pregnant I need to get on a workout schedule. Is step aerobics ok? I don't need advice on any other workout, just step aerobics. Thanks.

Step aerobics can be hard on your knees -- all the up and down. As you gain weight, this could become even more of an issue.
I found it difficult after the middle of my pregnancy -- I just didn't have the stamina. I switched to treadmill, and did fine with that.
There's nothing harmful about it, though, if your doctor has already recommended exercise. Give it a try, you may have a better experience than I did. (I have to confess I was 40, so maybe that was part of it!)

just be careful not to STEP to hard and jump around to much. If you are used to working out then go for it. however, if you have never worked out before and wanna start now, then i would def. ask my doc before i signed up. A good prenatal aerobics is water aerobics. I did it with my first and it was great. I think it contributed to my easy labor and delivery. I also did baby boot camp. Check out their website @ www.babybootcamp.com. see if its offered where you live. THIS IS THE BEST PRE AND POST NATAL WORKOUT EVER! I did it through my first pregnancy and then continued doing it until my daughter was 15 months old. YOu get to take your baby with you and its a great work out. I had lost all my baby weight by the time she turned 10 weeks. I am 33 weeks pregnant with my second baby now and am doing it again...so far I have only gained 17lbs and I know its b/c of baby boot camp. Good luck! and congrats!

You should ask your doctor if that impact is ok. I know women who did marathon running until they gave birth but they were in really good shape.

A work out schedule could have meant anything, your doctor needs to be more specific, especially given your health condition. You really ought to call your doctor and not just rely on answers from here. My ex-girlfriend had diabetes and had a hard time with her pregnancies.

Something that is too high impact, with bouncing and moving like that can cause you to go into early labor. You don't want that.

i would imagine step aerobics would be ok. i cant say for sure bc i'm not a dr, but since walking is highly recommended, i would think so. but due to being a diabetic, your dr may say not to, bc as in later in pregnancy, lots and walking and steps can bring about labor. i would think its ok to do it, but i'd ask your ob just to be sure. just make sure you dont overwork yourself. congrats and good luck!
