honesty is the best policy.
There isn't enough of it around. She will appreciate a straightforward approach instead of beating around the bush.
Just do with with your boyfriends permission as you wouldn't want to undermine him at all.
Shes a mother, and her family needs help that she has already offered. She will not be offended. She will most likely be happy you asked for her help as it will make her feel relied upon, which is something a parent loves to feel as her children become more independent.

Just polity say "Mom, I really need help on rent this month, is there anyway you can help me out, I will even pay you back" My Mom has helped me out on rent before too, and they don't mind so much, so I would just ask in a very nice way.

UM.... the reason they call them "mothers-in-law" is because they're only related to you by law... which is only if you're married. So you technically don't have a mother in law. However, if your boyfriend's mother said she would help, ask your boyfriend to ask her if she's still planning to do that.

Well, if your mother said she would, then politely remind her, not all abrupt and demanding. Maybe some thing along these lines: "Mom, remember when you said you'd help us with rent...well, it's about time. Do you think we could start soon?" or something along those lines. Don't be afraid to ask her. She's your mom, and I'm sure she would do anything for her child. ^_^ Best of luck to you!

People can be forgetful. If she is willing to help, bless her, then either have your boyfriend talk to her or ask her yourself. I get forgetful so I tell people that if I said that I would do something and I forget then they need to remind me. How is your relationship with her? If its good just be honest. If its not good send your boyfriend to talk to her. Good luck!!! I have helped my kids when they needed it and still do.

just remind her in subtle way like did you really mean that you would pay our rent as it is due if not i will go and get the money. that way it is not as though you are asking directly and you have also covered yourself. good luck

"Mom, remember when you'd say if we needed rent money you'd help us out---well, can you help us out? We can pay you back on such and such date...we're really in a bind".

Can't he ask her instead---it's his mom, it'd be easier for him...
