My best friend and his wife just had a baby who was 7lbs. 12 oz. and she smoked throughout her pregnancy. Is that a good weight considering? I dont have kids so I dont know what is "normal."

That is a great weight actually. My girls were 6lbs 9.5 ounces and 7lbs 2.5 ounces. I didn't completely stop smoking but slowed down like my OB/GYN suggested. A friend of mine completely quit smoking and her daughter was 5 lbs 3 ounces. i don't know what to think about it all though.

That is a very good weight considering the mother was stupid enough to smoke while pregnant. Sorry, but that is a very stupid thing to do. It's not fare that she forced her unborn, helpless baby to breathe that garbage. She should have been willing to stop for nine months. Then she could have smoked to her hearts content! I wonder how she would have felt if the baby had been born with a problem or seriously under weight knowing she did not give it the best possible chance she could have?

That was a great turnout . the baby realy healthy and considering that the mother smoked it was great but tell ur best friends wife to watch out right now and not to smoke in front of the baby know it will harm the baby and she can end up with a serious sickness. hope u take my advice best of luck.thankyou

That's probably about an average weight. Smoking during pregnancy is not a good idea because it can also cause other health problems besides low birth weight. Women who smoke during pregnancy are putting their baby ar risk for SIDS, allergies...and the list goes on.

Yeah, that sounds like a good weight smoker or not. Average is about 8, so 7 12 is about perfect.

The average weight is 7 lbs so I would say thats a good weight. Smoking *may* cause low birthweight but I have never known anyone that did smoke have a low birthweight baby.

Yes, 7 pounds and 12 oz is a fine weight for a heathly new born. Shame on her for smoking though!

Yes, that's a good weight, but who knows what other carcinogenic chemicals are floating around inside that poor baby who didn't choose to smoke.
