Without checking here is what I come up with
1. Germany, France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, The Netherlands, Lichtenstein, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria.
2. England, Scotland, (Northern) Ireland and Wales
3. Blanking here, Barcelona? (Sorry, it was Madrid when I checked, that was my second guess)
4. China, Japan, Kazakstan (spelling?)
5. Doubt I can do 19, Paris, London, Berlin (or is it still Bonn?), Vienna, Rome, Prague, Helsinki, Copenhagen, The Hague (oops Amsterdam), Lisbon, Glasgow (Edinburgh, just got back too, inexcusable), Dublin, that's all I think I can do without checking, and I probably made a few mistakes, sorry.
How many U.S. states and their capitals can you name? Many are larger than European nations.
Thanks for the reminder that our geographic knowledge is not exactly superb, it was a fun exercise though.
And there are only 50 states. As most Americans get less than half of the vacation time that Europeans get, it is a lot harder for us to see the rest of the world. When you consider that Texas is larger than France, and is not the biggest state, you realize that there is also a lot to see over here.
I know that there are 27 members of the EU, but I am not sure how many other countries have not been added to the union that are still geographically considered to be within the continent of Europe.
