if you go onto the guitar center's website, they have a whole slew of amazing books to chose from. i dont play guitar but my dad is the lead guitarist from twisted sister so i tried to learn from books and it didnt really work out. i gave up after a while. he just taught himself.

i would recomend goin down to your local music store and picking up a self teaching book. It will have basic cords along with some basic melodies. some even come with a instructional CD or DVD. I have also heard that Esteban has a pretty good instructional series as well. Any music store should do.
