I just found out I am pregnant yesterday morning. This is my first pregnancy and I am very nervous about losing the baby. When did your fear of miscarrying disapear? What can I do to calm my nerves??

I know this is a normal fear but what can I do to relax?

you can relax a little when you start your second trimester, but the threat of misscarrage never goes away till your baby is born.

Welcome to motherhood!!! Your maternal instincts are already kicking in, and there will ALWAYS be something to worry about. Congratulations!
Just concentrate on taking good care of yourself and your developing baby, then at least your will know that you are doing everything you can. Hopefully nature will cooperate and give you a healthy baby.
As others have said, miscarriage is relatively rare after 10-12 weeks. Most are in the first 8 weeks, actually. Hearing that heartbeat for the first time will be a relief!
Check out stress reduction classes -- mindfulness meditation, yoga, etc if you think you could get into that sort of thing. Many find it helpful.
Best of luck!

I was a nervous wreck first trimester! Second trimester was much better because the heartbeat was reassuring, but not fully! Today I feel so confident because I had my 20 week Ultrasound and I finally saw my baby girl! Healthy and perfect! I will sleep easy tonight! I totally understand your fear. I was so paranoid, but I guess it's natural for first timers. One bit of advice: STOP reading those pregnancy books that focus on the negative things that could happen. It's good to be aware that there is that risk, but it is also important for you to remain stress-free! Your baby will thank you! Good Luck and congrats!

First of all, congratulations!

My fear of miscarrying (and yes, it is normal, especially if you really want the baby!) went away when I saw the sonogram (I had twins!) at about 12 weeks. When I saw those little heartbeats, I felt like my children were safe...it just kind of like a warm feeling that washed over me. Just relax in thinking that you will have a beautiful child soon...you need the relaxation now anyway!

Good luck!!

I am 8 weeks pregnant and I worried from 4-6 weeks bad. For the last week or two I am not as afraid as I was before and thats mostly because I am trying to think positive about my pregnancy. I think when I see the baby's heart beat next week then I will only be afraid a little bit. It will never go away!

just try to enjoy the pregnancy.
Your fear goes away some after the first trimester since possibility of miscarriage goes down dramatically.

I think you are always in fear of having a miscarriage at least I was. I have 1 son and I have one on the way. (always worried that I may miscarry)

I was nervous my whole pregnancy... I felt better after I went to the doctor and she said everthing was fine.. I always got nervous before I would go to the doctor.. Also I had one of those things you can listen to the heartbeat on, I would not advise this because it was hard for me to hear the heartbeat, so I was always afraid something was wrong with the baby.. My Husband finally took the thing away from me... LOL. Congrats on your pregnancy...

to be honest I never even thought about m/c with my first baby. I had no doubt in my mind that my baby would be healthy and here in 40 weeks time.....however, with this pregnancy, i did worry about it a little b/c I had two friends that had them about a month before I got pregnant. They say that once you make it out of your first trimester then you pretty much have nothing to worry about from there....but I knew after my first visit that everything was going to be just fine. Just keep telling yourself that you and your baby will be fine and im sure you will be! CONGRATS TO YOU!

unfortunately, the threat never goes away, but the risk decreases greatly when you enter your second trimester. i worried about it for quite sometime, even after i was 14 weeks. but i also had other things going on (UTIs, kidney stone) etc. i'm sure everything will be fine. just make sure you know what you can do to keep the risk low, such as no alcohol, smoking, eating healthy and so on. i'm sure you and your baby will be fine. congrats and the best to both of you!

I felt better once I reached 12 weeks, since the chances go way down. I was still nervous though, because you hear all the horror stories. Then the baby comes and you worry about SIDS. My mom told me that I'll never stop worrying. Welcome to mommyhood. I'm sure you'll be fine, good luck.

Honestly I was nervous my whole pregnancy. For me the fear decreased when I could feel the baby move.

As for relaxing, maybe you could talk to your doctor about your fear and she/he could ease your nerves.
