A web page is always enhanced by an image of a person doing something site related.
The image has to have a concept though, not just some random guy typing on a computer, but something that relates directly to what your site/service is about.
It could reflect the benefits of using your site, or the process, or the results.
If you already have a strong conceptual idea, then use a phot that enhances that.
In short the photo should almost be like a print ad without a headline or a tag or a logo or copy.

i do not think so. images and video are useful tools for sharing information but i don't think they are more successful, except for sites like youtube where its all about video, or flickr where its all about pictures. they would still need to used text anyways.
yes, use of images and videos and flash makes a website much more attractive, but, do you want it?
i think it depends upon your site visitors. how many people today have the patience of waiting 30 seconds for a flash intro to load??? very few... similary... the same thing with images...
i think that websites need to be clear to read and accessible.. not the ones those generated by frontpage that have weird colors and links.. you would still have to do your work on those.. work on colors, fonts.. sizes.... but.. if u do it right.. they will look good...

I would have to say yes they are more successful because people want info quickly, they don't want to have to read to understand. If they can watch a video and listen to someone read a report they will choose that over reading the whole report themselves.
