I think it will hurt his chances. I'm not sure if it should or not, but there are many other better reasons that he shouldn't be elected. Regardless of whether you agree with his political platform, his lack of experience and understanding of the global situation should disqualify him from the highest office in the country. If he served in his national office for a couple more terms, or served as a governor or even in a high level in the private sector, then he might be qualified.
Someone completely unqualified for the job would be worse than Jimmy Carter as President, and everyone should know how disastrous his single term was for the military, foreign policy and domestic issues...

It shouldn't, but it might. If he gets the nomination then right wing radio will pull out all stops to prevent him from being elected. If they have to create a subconscious connection between the democratic candidate and Saddam Hussein then they will. They were far less subtle in the recent congressional election.

Only if the ignorant people continue to judge a person by their name...then again Dick and Bush were elected twice...so Obama may have a clear shot.

I'm not as concerned about his name as his propensity to give illegal aliens and their supporters all kinds of benefits. I don't think I'd like someone who is not loyal to the citizens and the Constitution to be President of the United States of America. Treason is not a presidential qualification.

As much as I would like to say no, the fact is, his name will have a negative impact on his chances of becoming elected.

I hope with every fiber of my being that the majority of Americans are not simpletons who think his middle name indicates anything but his parents bad taste.

If there are people out there silly enough to vote for somebody based on their name and not their political stance and/or merit, they should not be voting.
