"occupy" I think is a strong term. The US has bases and troops in many countries but those countries are stil sovriegn. And, those troops, care of us tax payers, contribute alot to the local economies and in many cases protect those countries (e.g. S. Korea)

The US doesn't "occupy" any Asian countries at this time. The US does have military bases with troops in many countries, not only Asian countries. They do not interfere in the national affairs of those countries. Sometimes it is at the request of the host country; other times the US has a long-term lease on the land it is using. The US has friends (and enemies) all over the world, and this is why the US keeps a small military presence in many places.
