As Christmas is a religious festival how can it be unlucky when you take your decs down. Tradition on the other hand says that Christmas lasts 12 days, every day is a separate religious feast day until the 6th January - Ephinany when the three kings visited Christ.
However, some Christians although they take their decorations down do not take their actual tree or cribs down until 6th February which is Candlemass when Christ was presented as a baby in the temple. Our church leave their crib up till Candlemass.

12th day of Christmas i.e. the 6th January. It's certainly 'supposed' to be unlucky if you leave them up after that date. In the true spirit of Christmas decs should be put up the week leading up to the 25th Dec (NOT a month before!!), and taken down on the 6th January.

Only if you believe so. If not take it down when you get tired of looking at it. Don't worry, they'll be another Christmas shortly and then we can do it all over again. Seems they come so fast now. It's sort of like the people who leaves the Christmas lights up all year around. Maybe they're not taking any chances.

I think you can take them down anytime before 6th Jan (12th night) but if you are supertitious on any way make sure that you take down all holly too and check that nothing has fell behind cupboards. I am not sure of the myht/folk tale behind this but my nana said that we would be dogged with bad luck and tht gremlins would come out.
