it depends on what you do to deliver babies, there's ob's, midwives, and mothers-who deliver their own children, it's called unassisted childbirth ;)

There are many different proffessionals who can help deliver a baby, and the level of schooling is different for each one.
Gynecologist - probably at least 6-8 years of school + residency
Certified Nurse Midwife - I think 2 years less than a dr.
Nurse - 4 years + residency
Doula - 2 years + residency

Are you actually having a baby or just thinking about having one? My advice would be to get your education first before you even think about bringing another life into the world. If you have no qualifications, what kind of employment do you think you're going to be able to get that will enable you to give your child a good start in life? BTW, Jesse - I imagine the asker is in the UK, because what you call college we call university and what we call collge we usually attend from the age of 16.

AT LEAST 8 years...4 of regular college, 4 of med school, and then maybe around 2 more years in residency. Before you become a doctor you might want to learn how to spell "does", "babies", and "college" first.

people have been doing it for thousands of years all by themselves. You need 8+ years to be a doctor in the US. A nurse needs at least 2 yrs. 6+ years to be a doctor in many under developed countries.

To be an OB 8-12, you'd need a medical degree. To be a midwife, I'm not sure, but I expect less. Why not ask at a local college?

Anyone can catch a baby!
However it depends whether you want to be a lay midwife, a certified/nurse midwife or an OB. And where you live.
Lay midwives generally only do an apprenticeship.

It DOES take at least 8 years of COLLEGE to deliver BABIES, as an OB-GYN. You may want to learn to use "check spelling," or better yet, learn to spell before considering college level anything.
