It's obviously heard throughout every song by Alice in Chains. This man had an extreme talent. He was born to sing and that he did. He messed up going to herion; but any chance to quit would fail because of a deep addiction.

Question is; Who else is deeply sad that such an amazing voice went to waste? He was truely a great vocalist...

Rest in Peace, Layne Staley
1967-2002 (I believe so. I possibly got it wrong)

Definitely sad....his voice made Alice In Chain's songs even better...it's amazing how differently he could sing on these songs and yet you know it's AIC...Angry Chair, Man in the Box, Them Bones all have different singing styles, yet Layne made them all great. He's definitely one of the best singers from one of the best bands ever.

RIP Layne

Wow. What brought this on after four years? This is pretty old news.

That said, I can honestly say that Layne Staley had a powerful and unique voice unlike anything I have ever heard. Big fan, I am. So I am sad, but from a musical point of view, it is probably just as well. What are the odds that that awesome voice would have been put to good use as he grew older anyway? Probably not that good. I thought that each album after "Dirt" had significant lesser quality than the first two. I am really saddened at how his life turned out, but at least I have some great music to remember him by.

I agree. The man had an amazing voice. Out of all of those bands that came out then, I think Alice in Chains was the best. "Dirt" has to go down as one of the best albums ever. I'll miss their music.

I miss him. I think his voice was (is) amazing. When he sang you could almost hear the torment in his soul. I know that sounds kinda cornball, but I truly believe it.

I know Alice In Chains just toured recently, but I couldn't bring myself to go see them. As far as I'm concerned, NO ONE will ever be able to sing AIC songs the way Layne Staley did, and it's almost sacreligious to even try.
