Isn't it against the law to have women and men in the same jail cells? Has this ever happened to anyone before, if so what ( if anything) did you do about it?

I had a friend that was arrested and placed in the same cell with a guy, the police stated that because he had long hair they did not realize it was a guy. My friend said that the beard and mustache should have given it away, and that he was obviously a guy. Can she do anything about this?

Curious

I worked in the Sheriff's dept and you are not allowed to put male & female together no matter what not even in a holding cell. Male & female were on different sides of the building. When you are booking in you have to state whether you are male or female so how could they not tell the difference?

It wasn't jail she was placed into, because men and women have completely different prison's. There is no way a guy would be in a female prison, it's an impossibility. Most likely she went to a Drunk holding cell, there they can stuff who ever they want into them, although seperate facillities are almost always provided

Your friend could have been in a hold area (tank) while the paperwork was being processed, but still usually the women are seperated from the men. If women and men ever got placed together, man, the parties that would occur and the babies that would be made.

I think this varies for each state...you should look at your county website and go to jail and then read about it there...also a lot of the time you can call your local legal aide office and ask them for free...she should press the issue because what if he had been a stalker or rapist or worse yet a murderer!!! Even if nothing happened to her that can be emotionally scary for any woman!

did anything happen to her in there? if so then yes if not then probably not. also was it just a holding cell or was it like actually being in jail... these all make a difference. if it was just a holding cell then yes they can be in the same cells together but not if they're being incarcerated.
