I just feel that it's so ridiculous for the NCAA to allow excessive spending like the deal that Nick Saban will be receiving from Alabama to coach football, not find a cure for cancer...but coach football.
The big college sports bring in major caysh, yet the kids playing the games are just given scholarships..a small investment when you think about how much money schools will make off of them playing for them. And, to add insult to injury, the rules/guidelines that they make these kids have to adhear to border on draconian. All in the name of keeping "college sports pure"...give me a break! Let a kid have a fishfry or something to get his parents enough money to go see him play in another state and the NCAA comes down on them like a ton of bricks. But it's okay to give a football coach so much money, that you can't even begin to justify it with a straight face...even worse? The administration will call for a overall tuition rate hike in a heartbeat with no remorse what so ever.

Didnt you know that mind numbing entertainment is more important than education in this country? Its to keep the sheep in line. I'm not mocking you. You should be outraged. Its about time more people wake up in this country.

I'd agree that players could get some reasonable amount of spending money. As for what that exact amount is, I don't know. I would assume that all scholarship athletes at a school would equally get this money. FYI: 1. Not all college coaches are getting paid $1 million+ per year. Some of the head football and basketball coaches are, but the majority are not. The assistants definitely are not. 2. A coach can be fired at any time. And not every coach gets a buyout clause.

You have to look at how much money sports brings to colleges. Where else would they get those millions of dollars to fund cancer research, from alumni grants, I think not. You say the players only get a scholorship? If they actually take advantage of that free education, that would cost you and me tens of thousands of dollars, its returns monitarily in the future could be countless.

In this day and age you will get nowhere with just a HS diploma, you need college.

I believe any player that opts to go to the pro's rather than finish their education should be required to reimburse the school for the free tuition they recieved. Many players use the schools to advance to the pro's. That is why they want to play for big time schools that get national media coverage. The student-athelete should be made to make education number one and sports next.

Its plain economics just like they teach in the business section at your college. Football brings in much much more than it costs especially at a school like Alabama. I think Saban's offer is spread out over a number of years and he will like be in the 2Mill class which is about what the tariff is for major college coaches. This is one of those whiny kind of questions like we had at my college. We are all supposed to be shocked and feel angst and all bad because football coaches are paid more than professors but the fact is that professors very often are paid from money brought in by the foootball programs. I was interested in the Alabama situation and read a lot about coach Rodriquez at WVU who was offered a deal there. He declined and was given more to stay at WVU. Little black suited students and tweedy profs were all up in arms at WVU but I also read that his football program and the basketball program pay for ALL of the other sports expensesand at WVU sports cost NO tax dollars at all. Meaning more for the general fund. Thats right self supporting! And bring other money in for the schools general fund. So its a phony issue to whine about college coaches salaries. They get what they get because it benefits the school. Now all of those flaky 10 year undergrads who are living on grants and stipends...they might be something to complain about.

I agree with you.

The priorities of some of these colleges are all screwed up.
