It seems that everyone's response is to take the baby to the doctor. There are some things that are just not necessary to go to the doctor for. If your baby gets a cold do you taker her/him to the doctor? Unless there is a high fever or a cough I just don't think its necessary. Sleep habits...your doctor is going to say whateveryone else says...gas, teeth, growing etc. I just think its funny how some people's answers are always "go to the doctor"

I guess what I'm getting at is that sometimes when people ask questions some answers have no advice but "go to the doctor". Its just not helpful. If you are going to answer because you have expertise in a subject but also feel a professional should be contacted than thats fine. But "Go to the doctor" doesn't really help when there isn't anything that goes along with it.

My kids have very rarely ever been to the doctor other than well child visits.
My oldest has had maybe 8 visits to a doctor that weren't well child checkups. (One of those was to get stitches for an injury and one was to get the stitches taken out. One or a dog bite and one to see if he needed stitches after a badly cut lip. The rest were for enuresis issues.) He will turn 8 years old next month.
My middle child will turn 6 in March. She has never had a doctor visit that wasn't a well child checkup.
My youngest will turn 4 next month. She has had 4 doctor visits that weren't for normally scheduled checkups. (One for stitches for an injury, one to get the stitches out, one for very high fever and one for ringworm.)
Unless it's something serious, I can take care of it myself.

I just think that the reason why everyone says go to the doctor, go to the doctor is because the best advise to get from a situation an individual can not solve is from the doctor. However I don't think you should have to go to the doctor just call the doctor first unless it was due to a very high fever or the baby having trouble breathing or anything of that nature. I am a first time parent and the health of my baby is important to me as it is to any parent. As a first time parent there are a lot of things I am not aware of that a baby does is normal. So I call the doctors office often just to make sure my baby stays healthy and safe! Better safe than sorry is correct. But you are right you don't have to rush to the doctor for a simple cough or constant hiccups or anything like that... some people are just concern and want to make sure everything is alright. I would recommend calling the doctor or a pharmacist before always going to the hospital unless its life threatening!

The doctors office will tell you when to come in. If it is something that seems way out of the norm and you don't feel right about what is going on, then take your baby to the doctor. I get this all the time, but unless she has a fever the doctor won't see her. I will, however, take her in no matter what if she hasn't gotten better for over a week. Remember, go with your instincts, only you know your child's habits are, and if something is wrong with her, usually the parents (no one else) will be the first to know. Also, it is good for children to play, get dirty and get some colds, etc as they build up an immunity, otherwise your child will always be sick. Good luck.

Umm I haven't taken my baby to the doctor since he was 7 weeks old, he is now 10 months.
I know I "should" but I had to fire my last doctor and there is absolutely nothing I hate more than looking for a doctor. Not to mention I want to see the doctor alone, which means I have to leave my son with my husband who works all the time or a sitter. Because I know certain doctors will report me to children's services for things that aren't any of their business and I really do not want to go through that again. (Pediatrician at the hospital didn't agree with be declining certain prenatal care and called children's serves over a dozen times because they kept telling him my prenatal care was none of their business. They finally agreed to come out because they were sick of him)

I have only taken my son to the doctor once. (he's two and 1/2) Now don't judge me I have an herbalist and my son has never been seriously sick. The only reason we took my son to the doctor that one time was because we thought his foot was broken. But the doctor couldn't even tell us anything and it cost us 500 dollars!! The chiropractor was the one that fixed that problem. Every time we have gone to a doctor in the past 3 years (my husband too) They have been able to tell us nothing. And after thirty five thousand dollars in hospital bills (no joke!) I am fed up. I will only go in a serious emergency.

I don't think you need to take your baby to the doctor at every sign of illness. If I'm at all concerned about something, usually a quick phone call to doc's office puts me on the right path by either recommending that I bring my child in or if an over-the-counter medication might help.

The only time I take any of my kids to the Dr is for there regular check ups/shots. If they ae sick with the cold then no I dont unless it lasts forever and gets worse. Parents know when there kids are not feeling well and anything out of the ordinary that gets worse you need to use your own judgement call

I use natural remedies, which work way better than traditional medicine-so I've only really taken him to well baby visits to make sure he's still gaining weight. The only time I did is when he couldn't keep food down.

The reason most people answer "take your kid to the doctor" is because most of the questions sounds like the kid is dying, and instead of typing the parent should really be taking the kid to the doctor.
