I have a Pentium 4 (socket 478) CPU and want to buy a Pentium 4 Prescott/ Pentium D Motherboard. Will that work ?

No. If you are trying to use your current processor (which requires Socket 478) in a Prescott motherboard, it will not fit. Intel Prescott processors require a Socket 775. Thus, a Prescott-capable motherboard will offer a Socket 775 arrangement (only). Socket pinouts usually change with the design of each new processor series. When you upgrade, always make sure a new motherboard offers the socket layout your processor requires

But if you're asking if there are ANY Pentium 4 processors that will fit a Prescott motherboard, the answer is, of course, yes.
