Ive got an old cinder block garage that has a flat cement roof.
It has a few cracks, that causes water to leak thru and inside.
I want to patch it with something to keep the water from seeping thru.
Is there something like a hot-tar alternative that DIYers can do?
Like maybe a sealer of some sort that I can brush on?

Its only a temporary fix maybe 1-2 years until I can get a real garage built.

lol at lifespan of 20-30yrs for a flat roof :) more like 10-15yrs if ya lucky. As for your question, it depends on what damage the leak has caused to the roof sheets underneath. As a quick fix, and will get quite a few yrs out of it, is the rubberised solution. too many makes too mention ( depends where you live hun ). But my concern is, if your roof is sagging, then there is a problem underlying, which needs to be rectified asap ! The rubberised solution is not that cheap & depends what size needs to be covered, can you pinpoint the source of the leak ? Try the rubber for now, if money tight. But start putting pennies away for complete repair next yr. Hope you get a temp fix for now, as water damage in the long term can end up leading to hefty repair bills. All the best & stay off the roof if you not comfortable.

You're wasting you time if you're trying to patch certain areas. Nothing will help. You should buy a roll of 4 or 6 mil plastic and cover the whole garage. (double it if you can.) Fasten strapping on it so the water runs past them and not against. Use screws to hold the strapping down. If you do a good job, this will last a few years.

call a roofing supply house in your area and talk with them. i don't mean a home depot or such. depending on the size of the cracks in the roof structure, you may have to fix them with a flashing cement (tar) and patch material, you can get a roll on "paint" to coat the roof. before you go to the supply house, take the measurements of the roof area. they will tell you what you'll need to do the job. hope this helps, and good luck.

Caulk or mastc will work. Make sure you inspect it twice a year for cracking and shrinkage tho. Remember that this is only suitable for a temporary fix. Good luck.

Nothing beats black tar roofing cement. It can be applied cold but it is easier to work with if you take it indoors and warm it up first.

plain old tar should work for a couple of years. you can get it in 5 gal. buckets pretty cheap. use the mesh, too, at least on the cracks. they should have it at any builder's supply store.

I would use silicone sealant. I used it for my fireplace concrete cap that was leaking. The silicone will not dry out and is still working great.
