He is an idiot.
Trust me, I am a dem/independent voter from VA who has voted for him before and i am incredibly dissapointed.

It was a ignorant, racist thing to say and spit on the idea of "religious freedom" this country was founded on.

But it did bring up a point i've thought for a long time. You shouldnt be sworn in on a Qua'ran (sp). You shouldnt be sworn in on the torah or the bible. You shouldnt involve any bible in any court. Isnt that a part of "seperation of church and state"

The bigotry and insensitivity toward arabs and muslims is overwhelming in this country. We should be ashamed as a counrty.

I disagree:
He is an ignorant racist who's ignorance became apparent when he said that we should close the border so Muslims wont get elected into congress.
Ellis is an African American who's family was here since the 1700's.(he is as american as american can be)
What Virgil Goode probably doesn't realize is that it is probably his conservative ancestors that brought Ellis's ancestors here and enslaved them.I guess they thought they were patriots too.

He is utilizing his right of freedom of speech. The word bigot is horrible, that is like calling someone who is pro immigration reform a racist. People get hurt really badly for using mean spirited words ya know.

I agree with Goode's letter and it is happening folks whether you like it or not. I have lived in the Middle East for going on 5 years now, he is absolutely right too !

Answer: Moron

Comment: The religious right wants to inject so much religion into politics/gov't - and this is exactly what you get when you do that. Religious wars. Who will be the official state religion? etc, etc, ad nauseum. Keep the freedom to worship, but keep religion out of government.

His comments represent the worst kind of xenophobic crap. The fact that the U.S. Constitution protects one's choice of religion (or no religion), or that the Congressman who chose to use the Qur' was born in the United States seems lost in the hysterical Mr. Goode.

The Constitution specifically calls for a nation of white anglo-saxon Protestants. I don't know who let all these other folks in.

He is a bigot. He is attempting to cash in on the anti-Muslim sentiment that is suddenly okay in this country. He is no better than the man who stood in front of the school in Alabama to prevent segregation.

Well, he difinitely loves his country. His argument has some merit but Americans try to be more fair to all.
