No, it's not okay, in fact, it's illegal. I'd report them to your state's labor board immediately. Then again, would you WANT to work for a company that acts that way?

Generally speaking, you cannot be disqualified for a job based on gender unless the job announcement specifically states that they're looking for men or women (for example, if you were looking for models for a Chippendale's calendar you are required by law to specify that you're looking for male models). Having said that, however, good luck getting an employer or a company to tell you why they didn't hire you if you don't get a job, and if you were to take them to court over the issue claiming gender discrimination they can always pull out the old stand-by "The person we hired was better qualified for the job for reasons a, b, and c." Happens in discrimination cases all the time.

This is a hair raising question.! I mean the hairs on the back of my neck are literally standing up now. You know I think its's ok for people to have their own opinion about what ever they wish to do and however they wish to do it. Really, if someone doesn't want to hire me because I'm a woman that's fine by me. But if it was the only job available and my life depended on it, It might upset me. If a woman is qualified for a job and there is no other jobs that will pay her the wadge she needs to feed her kids, then shame on the employer who refuses to hire her!

If you are qualified for the job, then in America it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of gender, race, national origin, etc...

I do not know the laws for other countries, and you did not specify where you are located.

If you are in America and feel you have been denied employment due to your gender, you can call the Better Business Bureau, or even the ACLU.

Good luck!

Personally If you are a man and got a job waiting tables at hooters. I would definitely quit going there as a client. So for the sake of some of the business, YES you should be disqualified from some jobs. Even if you are qualified for it.

If you are physically and mentally able to carry out the duties of the position, your sex should be immaterial.

Hooters waitresses need to be reasonably hot females. It's a casting thing along physical lines. Sorry, guys and unhot women.

Actresses shouldn't audition for King Lear. Sorry, that's a male role.

Men shouldn't apply to be a surrogate mother. Duh.

As I said, be physically and mentally able to perform the job.

Caveat: I think it would be fair to have some sort of liability waiver for women in hazardous jobs, to ensure they don't sue for fetal health issues. If you want to work at my nuclear plant in Springfield next to Homer Simpson, fine. Just don't blame me if your kid is born with eight fingers and eight toes.

If you are in the United States then it is against the law to refuse to hire someone because of their gender. I'm not sure what you mean by "employment information".

LOL

I assume you mean "Gender" because my sex life is not grounds for anyone denying me employment.

There are times when gender specification is legal. If the job requirements are such that only a male or only a female can do the job, then there is no discrimination. Otherwise, it is illegal in the USA to discriminate on the basis of gender.

Anyone whom has a business, has the right to hire anyone he or she wishes is fit for the job. However a government job can not be denied over such criteria.
