When asked by people what they have achieved, Labour politicians always point out the massive investments they have made to education, health etc, but this in itself is not an achievement. Surely what they have achieved depends on the results of these investments and in the case of this government the results are extemely poor considering that we now pay far more in taxes. Your thoughts please.

God Bless you.

Maybe you should come to the states and join up with like-minded people who understand that wasting money is not the same as making a difference.

I don't mind spending the community's money, so long as there is a real, direct benefit to all. Spend money where it needs to be spent, and cut funding from nonessential projects which could easily be privately funded.

By that reasoning the Labour party leaders have achieved great things in Europe. We now give an extra 1 billion pounds to that worthless organisation. You probably also know that we are paying for the unelected talking shops the assemblies in England, round about £300 per person, another waste of money foisted upon us by Brussels.

When it comes to statistics the money thrown at their policies always look better than their achievements.

Some others have referred to the record of the previous Tory government in a derogatory manner. What must be remembered is they had to spend several years clearing up the mess the country was left in after the previous Labour years.

The foundations for the current economy was laid during the Thatcher years.

To convince the moronic tax paying public that they are actually doing something worthwhile and good, whilst wasting the rest of our hard earned.
Bring in some decent money men NOT politicians to help our country.

How in your mind are you measuring the result of this investment?

Prior to Labour entering power the Conservatives had all but run the NHS and Education system into the ground, they'd lost billions on poor economic management, short-term favour winning, sold over half our gold reserves on the global market in a foolish attempt to bolster there mistakes and a failing pound. And they even privatised all our utilities and Oil but failed to use the revenue effectively!

Labour (through investment & management) have turned the economy around & given the Bank of England independance; we have a continually growing economy, an aging population that is putting increasing pressure on the NHS but is being provided at the same time by a 1st class service (just compare the NHS to otehr sytems around the World); an education system that continues to out perform year-on-year. We (as a Nation) remain a key player in Global/Economic affairs and through this position have positively added not only to National but International issues.

I could go on but politics is a debate that is full of personal opinion ....... this is just some of mine :)

The only way for it to work is to hold politicians accountable for the returns on said investments.

Lucky for them, this almost never can be evaluated until long after they're out of office.

You are perfectly correct. The government trots out all these impressive figures and people think that makes everything ok. It's to distract the public from the absolute shambles the government has made with these investments.

Agreed, I don't know who's more stupid Labour or their supporters. All they've done is tax the hell out of your average person and spent the money badly. It baffles me that their supporters think that, if you are intelligent and educated, you vote for Labour. Eh ! Wake up!
There is not a single good thing that has come out of 10 years of Labour rule.

It is an achievement after 18 years of tory rule where very little was invested in. But to truly achieve they could've invested in something which would have had more results. An investment in the dying manufacturing industry would be nice, ours that is, not China's or India's.

I agree!

But who is to say that other parties will be any better?

In terms of health I'm not sure of the results but I see so many common sense ad campaigns trying to encourage smokers to quit etc. But youre right, do we ever see the results?
