Great cross section of society.
From the classy to the trashy.
From the intelligent to the more intelligent.
From the rude, crude & lewd to the more refined & respectful.
Sell our country to the Mexicans, wealth-redistributing, burn-the-flag, give all our wealth to some third-world-country Ultra-liberals to Spy-on-your-own-people, suspend as many Bill Of Rights as you can, Big-Business, Big-Government, Big-Brother, war-mongering Ultra-conservatives.
Atheist to agnostic.
Virgin-sacrificing, blood-drinking, God-hating pagan to Born-again, Bible-thumping, pew-jumping, speaking-in-tongues, fundamental Christian.
Anti-sexual, asexual, multi-sexual, metro-sexual, heterosexual, bisexual, trans-sexual.
Yep, they're all here.

Not necessarily...There was a telephone poll done in the 1940's to predict a presidential election and the poll was all wrong...the reason was...only a certain kind of people owned telephones...usually more wealthy, more educated and more urban.

I think the same thing is true of computer owners and operators...usually it will be wealthy, educated, urban and most of all BORED. The other thing about computer users is I think many of them are younger than the general population.

We have a large sampling of very young, bored and yet somewhat wealthy (compared to world standards anyway) and intellectual, older people. However, the intellectual, older people can usually find something better to do that work YA for opinions.

You question is sort of like saying "Are people who read dime novels and watch soap operas a good sampling of society?" Not really. The sampling is a little skewed for obvious reasons. I wouldn't trust YA to predict a presidential election but does take a cut out of the middle of society.

Yes for sure. There's a huge variety isn't there? I haven't been on Q&A for long. I can say I have been shocked at some of the questions people ask but more so from the answers. Everyone has their own opinions and speak loud and clear. Some people are harsh and down right mean. Others are very compassionate and understanding. Pretty much Q&A shows us what our world and people in it are really like. We need more of the understanding and compassionate to change the world.

No. Do you want to know why? First off, who is asking? Secondly, there is this pesky margin of error thing. When you watch the news and you see at the bottom in small print, "-1/+1" that is the margin of error. Now if there is a 1 point diffrence in yes or no then that margin of error of -1 or +1 makes the poll or survey worthless. Now polls and surveys can have a margin of error up to 7% or more. Ideal a margin of error should be under 2 with the difference between the yes/no well over the margin of error. Hope that helps. A good college statistics class will bore you to death with all this.

I think the majority of us are a good sample of society. We all have a good sarcastic sense of humor. But the people who post malicious and racist, hate-filled things are probably not even really like that in their real life. If they are, they will have to face their maker one day anyway. But for the rest of us, it would be kinda nice if the rest of the world was as laid back, funny, and open-minded as the people on here.

I agree I think this is a great question, and I really hope that this is not a good sample of society, if so we are in trouble, there are alot of people on here that only seem to have half a brain!

Even with those posts that you speak of(because it's easy for anyone to create as many accounts as they want to do those rude things), I like to think that there's a pretty regular sample of society here, sure. The one thing I've noticed though, especially through yahoo 360, is that there seem to be a lot of people here that are writers, artists, dreamers....just more creative people in general. I don't know if that's a coincidence or if it's because people find it easier to be themselves here, but that's what I've observed. There are all kinds of amazing people here :)

Well, some people are very offensive to other people.
And it's like that in daily life too. There are also funny people and serious people. So there's a little bit of everything at Yahoo Q&A. Unfortunately that goes for the bad things too.

Unfortunately , yes buddy! People here come from all walks of life , all ages, any lifestyle, and most of all any IQ! So I'm sorry to break it to ya like this but scientists say that a gathering of people (crowd) is just like dealing with mass population which is equivalent to a 5 year old scientists say...
