Tax the churches. Any atheist who doesn't put that as the first and only item on his agenda is a fraud. Not letting children pray in schools and the other trivial stuff are evidence that the designated atheists are really agents provocateurs of the right wing.

You should band together and start your own country in the desert.
Why should there be a lobby to for less than 2 percent of the population?

I'm agnostic, but I agree it is needed. Actually, I want to say that it exists (and not necessarily in the ACLU). There a lot of lesser-known lobbies that work as much and are heard as much. If you dig around the internet and find a website for an organization of aetheists, you might get some leads.

I wonder if you put all the atheist and agonostics together on one side, then you put everybody else on the other side which side would have more people. Think it might be the everybody else side. I think Congress might be wise enough to figure it out. So your influence would have little change. UNLESS you are prepared to grease the palms.

I think atheists are far too individualistic to band together. Madelyn Murray O'Hare's group already lobbies.

When I heard that the Stones had to cut lines from some of their songs in a concert then it occurred to me that 'yes', someone is stepping on my toes here.
I don't believe in Jesus. I want to believe there is a god. I hope to find him before he finds me wanting.
I do not want my children being taught any religious view. I do not want my children being made to say an oath of allegiance every day. Nor do I want them to feel obliged to salute the flag of a country they happen to be born in.
You do not convert people to your way of thinking by making them live by your own self-imposed restrictions.
You have a better and happier life? Then show me, don't make me live it.
quote : 'I do not agree with what you say but I will die for your right to say it.'
just like my father, grandfather and great uncles in fact.

fIRST OF ALL, YOU SHOULD FIND OUT THE NUMBER OF ATHEISTS IN THE CONGRESS BY USING A CRITERIA.REMEMBER THAT ATHEISTS ARE NOT NON-BELIEVERS.THEY DENY THE MAJOR 3 PROOFS OF THE EXISTENCE OF GOD.THIS ALSO MEANS A REJECTION OF RELIGION BUT NOT DISREGARD OF OTHERS BELIEFS.SECOND, WHY IS THIS QUESTION ASKED? THIS IS NOT CLEAR AT ALL.THIRD, IT IS ALSO NOT CLEAR WHAT `INFLUENCE' ARE YOU MEANING.AS OF NOW, TO THE EXTENT OF MY INTUITION,ATHEISTS CAN DEFINITELY BE A PART OF LEADERSHIP TO COMBAT BIGOTRY AND FUNDAMENTALISM OF ALL VARIETIES. SO, WE ARE BACK TO THE AGENDA OF THE SECULARIZATION OF THE AMERICAN MIND.

Too late old boy! The atheists have already lobbied congress and now we do not have prayers in school, we do not have the ten commandments in our public buildings we do not have the teachings of the bible in our public schools, and the cross is banned from public ceremonies. The list goes on and on and on. And you want to form an influential lobby?
For what?
Executions of God worshipping men and women?
You don't need a lobby.

well first i want to congratulate many of the posters who have answered this question before me - supplying us all with ample demonstrations of just how stupid people can be - just amazing.
of all the things that could waste any normal person's time, i can't imagine why further involvement in govt would be one of them.
as a normal citizen, who basically never goes to church and couldn't care less about organized religion, i just live my life day to day and hope that no organized religion will never impose it's way into my life.
getting more involved in govt will only soil you - don't bother.
if you want to get involved in filth, roll around in the mud in your backyard. really it's much cleaner than most politicians in america.

I think you need to first look in the mirror and be sure that there is no way a superior being is responsible for you being here, I guess you just got created in the air some how, right?...Oh but then, who created the air...?????
What do you want to lobby for?...The thing about atheists that I don't get, is you are willing to embrace the life you have been given but want to thank no one and no thing for it.....
