Apple has to negotiate a distribution deal with all the major studios and copyright holders - further, Apple have to get all the studios to agree on the same deal, with the same pricing, and the same revenue share, which is by no means a quick and easy task.

I heard that they are hoping to at some point this year. But as already said there is a lot of negotiating to do! Apple are doing their big start of year keynote meeting on Jan 9th which tends to be when they make any big announcements and launch new products so we may get some news then. Here's hoping!
