I've never really thought about it myself. But this is a fact that a lot of people don't know: Models are necessarily beautiful but they are chosen because they fit whatever they are modelling. A modelling agency doesn't necessarily make an item of clothing to fit the model, they make them in a certain size and then find someone that their item fits like a glove on, gorgeous or not. Also models are made-up very much, and with that much make-up and all those adjustments on the computer, you can lose your acne and 3 dress sizes!!!

On the other hand, a 'beauty-queen' is someone who is naturally beautiful. That doesn't mean you have to have completely clear skin or have no curves, but it's someone that looks good in clothes that suit them, with only a bit of make-up on. These are also people who's bodies are not altered on the computer and they are beautiful as they are.

So, there is actually quite a lot of difference, and not all models are really that good looking so don't compare yourself!

Modeling is open to both male and female models and people of any ethnics or national background. While some modeling categories can have very specific height or weight requirements others can be more accessible. There are models of all ages, up to 60+.The two main modeling categories are Editorial/Fashion (i.e. runway and fashion magazine models) and Commercial. Editorial/Fashion has very strict requirements for height and weight, Commercial is a very broad category with requirements that are not as strict, there are all sorts of commercial models. Basic height requirements for the two main modeling categories,

A model is someone who is not necessarily pretty or beautiful but some one who is attractive in an unusual or interesting in some way that makes her stand out. They have a build and a style that allows them to wear clothes that would normally be to much for the rest of us. Models are usually born with the looks that make them.
A beauty queen is someone who is pretty and well groomed and makes it her business to look just right for every occasion. She has traits that are ultra feminine. Usually known as a pretty girl. Cheerleader types qualify in this category.

A model offers simply that...a place to model anothers ideas. A beauty queen is a person who is deemed stereotypically beautiful, that others can vote on. The outcome, nothing more than a crown, whereas a model can show people ideas, fashion and art.

When I think of a "beauty queen" I think of a woman who has won some sort of beauty pageant. It could be a major one like Miss America or the local county fair but some sort of beauty contest. A "model" is any woman (or man) who poses for a photographer or artist. It could also be someone who "models' clothing in a fashion show.

A beauty queen usually has talent or is more well-rounded than a model.
A model just has to have a certain look or style. A beauty queen has to compete against others to secure her title.
A model gets paid outlandishly while a beauty queen usually walks away with cash award and scholarship.

A model is someone that models their beauty. Either in runway, catalog, print, or photos. And models aren't necessarily what everyone would call beautiful. A beauty queen, has beauty...hence the name "beauty" queen.
