Guys, do not place any rude answers or I will report you as abuse. You were warned (by the heading).
I would like answers from people who have gone of the pill (for months at a time). I do not want answers from people who have no idea what they are talking about.
I am about to go off of my birth control. The last pill I took was Saturday (12/30/06). I was wondering about how long afterwards will I get my libido (sex drive) back? I have been without it for way to long now. I also wanted to know how going off the pill will affect my period? I am at the end of it right now, but I still bleeding a little bit since I think my body has realized that I am not taking the pill. (I know that the pill makes your body think it is pregnant.)

I know that my sex drive is gone due to the pill. I know several people who have had the same problem (since I worked in a pharmacy). I have read online about people with the same problem. I wanted to know how long it took to come back.

As for Zderickz: If you read my question description correctly, I said no rude answers or you will be reported for abuse. It has nothing to do with gender discrimination. I am saying that I do not want stupid answers like "ewww your gross". I have no problem with guys answering my question.

At the risk of being reported because I'm a guy...
My wife was on the pill for about 10 years and I have to say that in her case at least her libido took a long time to come back - very gradually - over maybe 5 years! There are reports in the medical press of permanently reduced libido (although I can't imagine how they go about measuring that!).
One other factor also comes into play - if you are more nervous about becoming pregnant (assuming that you don't want to!) then that can reduce your libido (hers improved when I had my vasectomy). Converserly, being keyed up about trying for a baby may also have the same effect.
Also be aware that in some cases coming off the pill will make you extra-liable to fall pregnant... which is not always such a good thing immediately after stopping the pill as your hormones won't be properly back to normal.

I´ve been off the pill since September and my libido has only come back slightly. I didn´t have a huge sex drive in the first place, so this is pretty normal for me. Before I went on the pill my periods were irregular - anywhere from every 26 to 36 days, but now they´re every 28 days like clockwork, even though I´ve been off the pill for over 3 months.

well when i was on the pill i to lost my sex drive i was on marvelon 28. it took me about a month to acually get get it back, so it has time to pass through your system.
now with me (everyones different) when i got off the pill i to was spotting after my period
your periods will be irregular for a while untill your body adapts to not having the synthedic hormones in your system.
they will either be heavy or light along with cramps, like every period has after being off the pill.
spotting is fine no need to worry, you might become a little irritable so just to warn you, i know i did.
i dont just affect your periods and libido, it does major changes to your body to after getting off the pill.
you might break out alot more, headaches, stomach cramps, mood changes, and breast tenderness.
like the symptoms you get when you first started taking the pill, but now these symptoms are from getting off the pill, cause now you dont have those synthedic hormones telling you your pregnant, every action has a reaction my dear.
till then relax and watch a movie or have some down time your moods might get a little ..................different

I was on birth control pills for years, and they never interfered with my libido.... My younger sisters are on bc pills now, and none of them have any such complaints either. ..... If I were you, I'd tell my GYN because you may have hormonal problems that are not linked to those pills.
Any time I went off the pill, my periods would be absolutely dreadful. I ended up having to have a full hysterectomy due to endometriosis.
If you are not satisfied with the feedback you get from your GYN, go see another physician. For me, I seem to have better patient-doctor interaction whenever I have a younger female doctor.
Best of everything!

I lost my sex drive while on the pill. I went off of it because of that and it returned back to normal in a few months. My period stayed on a regular cycle but shifted in days a bit but nothing to drastic. If it doesn't return to normal in a few months see your doctor and have yourself checked for a hormonal imbalance. Also if you are overweight, try to lose some. Estrogen is stored in fat and too much of it can decrease your sex drive.

You should be reported for abuse. Gender based discrimination. Since there are more MALE doctors than FEMALE doctors, it makes no sense at all for you to address your question only to females; now does it?
