Boys will be boys. It is not uncommon for boys to masterbate each other or together. He will grow out of it if he isn't gay. There is nothing to worry about.

Do not freak out on this. At 12 he is going through a natural stage of male puberty called the hero phase in which boys get curious about other boys and want to explore sexual feelings. They pass through this stage quickly and soon become more modest and definately show preference for girls. They will however keep up their masturbation. Masturbation is good for your son. It is good for his reproductive system and it is good for him to develope his sexuality. In catching your son I hope you did not make a big deal out of it but excused your self for interupting his privacy and then have a talk with him later about sex, sexual development, safe sex behavior, and the importance of keeping sex personal and private. This would be a good time to set up some procedures so that his privacy is protected and you need to encourage him to talk with you about sex. Check into these sites for information to help you talk with your son. www.jackinworld.com, www.coolnurse.com, www.boysunderattack.com. Google male puberty and you will have a months worth of reading. Again, do not worry. Ease your son's embarrassement on being seen in a sexual situation. Ensure your son that you want to protect his privacy and will knock etc. Have a talk about safe sex. Not just not how to get a girl pregnant, but how to protect himself from other's body fluids, how to clean up after himself when he masturbates, and how to not abuse his penis with gadgets that are out there. Also, be sure he does not have a computer in his room. IF he does move it out into the open. Caution him about pornography. Good luck

i wouldnt get too worried it's probably curiosity. When I was 7 I had the same type of things happening all the time. That was out of pure curiosity, I think at 12 though it could be anything from curiosity to your son just branching out and trying to understand things or it could be him being genuinely interested sexually.

he's probably just curious. If there are older boys participating too, then I'd be concerned.
A friends 12 year old was gang raped last summer by three of his classmates and it all started by joining in the circle jerks. The other boys said he was a willing participant which I doubt.
Don't let too many of his friends spend the night at the same time.

They are probably starting to change, body type wise, and don't completely understand everything that's going on. If you are concerned talk to your son about it, but don't make a big deal out of it, as to not embarass him. He might have questions for you or might not ask anything. I wouldn't panic about anything... if you think your son is gay, he might be. But again be a supportive parent and love your son regardless.

put your worries to rest. it's absolutely normative behavior for a boy to masutrbate at or before age 12. likewise, it is typical behavior for your son to be experimenting with a member of the same sex. it does not point to homosexuality. your son is friends with other boys. at this stage in his life he has not developed the socail skills to become involved with girls.
please, do not make a big deal out of this situation. it may end up scaring your son for life. sex is a beautiful experience and should not be treated as wrong, dirty, or disgusting. those attitudes will impact his later feelings related to sex.

Are they both boys? He is probably just experimenting he is only twelve. Masturbation is healthy anyways I wouldn't worry about your son. And if the friend is a boy and he happens to be gay there is only a matter of supporting and accepting him.

I understand your concern. Kids are naturally curious and they may even think it is funny. My suggestion would be to talk to him about "the birds and the bees" and help him have a healthy attitude towards sex. Now is the time to help him have that attitude. Maybe both you and his father should have the discussion with him

This is normal behavior. It's not at all unusual for kids at this age to experiment with each other...girls do it as well....as will boys and girls together. Don't worry and don't make him feel bad for it.

Sexuality in adolescent youth ages eight to 12.......................
Same-gender sexual behavior is common at this age. Boys and girls tend to play with friends of the same gender and are likely to explore sexuality with them. Masturbating together and looking at or caressing each others genitals is common among adolescent boys and girls. Such same-gender sexual behavior is unrelated to a child's sexual orientation.

Here are a couple of links for you to look at, the second one is especially informative.

Normal, teens tend to experiment, including mutual masterbation, nothing at all wrong with it, does not mean your son is gay and continuing to do it over the next few years won't make him gay! Just healthy sexual experimentation that leads to healthy sexual maturity.

I wouldn't worry about it one second. They are just curious kids, its nothing to worry about at all, just embarrssing because they got caught. DO NOT PUNISH THEM IN ANY WAY, but use the time to have a frank dicussion about sex and answer any questions he may have. Smile and laugh to easy the tension.
